Ghostcast Server Network Drivers
I recently installed and configured an SCCM server to do my dirty work as I am deploying all new computers to my company. It was a pain to configure but now that it is up and running it blows Ghost away. Side note: make sure you have igmp snooping disabled on all your configurable switches or it will blow up your network.

I put this guide together a few months ago from some people that had never built a Ghost server before. We used Windows 2008 Server and Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.
The guide is written to a pretty basic level but it works. I have had 3 people built Ghost servers using this guide.

Convert pkg to iso ps3. I posted this because I have not found a great deal of information on building this server. This build used 3Com services, they are a little on the old side but they are included on the Ghost install disk. Also there may be other ways this is just how I do it.
First lets start with the time it takes to send out an image. We imaged about 300 computers a few weeks ago and an image that was 23 gig took 45 minutes on a 1 GigaBit LAN. We were also sending it out to about 100 computers. As for the multicasting, we use multicasting when ghosting more than a few computers. The other ways are Unicasting or a Directed Broadcast. Unicast is only good for a few computers, so you will have to do a Directed Broadcast. I have never used this mode before so I can’t say what will change in the time it takes to send out the image.
If I am not mistaken it is an option when you log into the ghost session to select this mode. However depending on the version you have it may be a little different.
Thanks to both of you for your time and help.Kurt M. Your way sound along the lines I was thinking. The systems are the same the ones that are bad I am changing the hard drives out.So you believe if I want to make a new image of the updated machine take it off the network give generic name then create the image and then put that image back in the Ghost server images folder and then hook up one of the computers with the new had drive and deploy the image i created and boot up locally and rename to proper name then re add to domain Correct?Greg C are you sure you talking about using Ghost Cast Server? Well I am not familiar with Ghost Cast but I am sure you are using it to image a reference PC and deploy the captured image to other PCs. In order to do it properly, you should first sysprep so that when you deploy the image to a machine, it starts up without the individualized stuff such as PC name, domain association, and you can make it so that every user that logs on to that deployed machine has a standardized setup. In the meantime it retains all the applications you installed so you save time. If you only have like 5 PCs to reimage then yes it might just be easier to image them and then rename.
